Somerville Trade Training and Technical Education Centre

Client: Department of Education and Training
Architect: Graypuksand
Value: $4 Million

This project involved the construction of a new specialist technical education centre at Somerville Secondary College to include workrooms, electrical technology and exterior workshop area.

A major emphasis of this project was the environmental and sustainable design which utilised the use of rammed earth walls, native plants, local products, natural ventilation and light all within a design that takes advantage of the natural contours of the land.

Throughout this project our team were introduced to a number of challenges with building materials and methods never previously used before. With determination and an intuitive approach everyone fully embraced this test and delivered a building project with minimal defects, on time and in budget.

“The project staff were willing to go the extra mile to ensure that the clients vision for the building and intended use was met. The high level of attention to detail and attitude of the team ensured all trades achieved the required high quality of finishes. Overall this was a great project and we look forward to working with Johns Lyng Commercial Builders again.”
